Adventist penny-pinchers ask ADRA to renovate house

They need help.
They need help.

COLLEGEDALE, Tenn. — Feeling the financial squeeze of the holidays, Tom and Suzie Avaro have petitioned the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) for a complete renovation of their house.

In their cry for help, the Avaros called their outdated bathroom fixtures, boring carpeting and current kitchen counters a “humanitarian crisis” and begged for immediate help.

“We can’t stand being this uinspired in our own home,” said Tom to friends from church as he tried to recruit them to write ADRA on his behalf.

“It has gotten to the point where we are embarrassed to entertain guests,” said Suzie, imploring members of her Sabbath potluck team to join the letter campaign to the development agency.

“We can’t possibly live the lives we’ve been called to unless we have a patio by spring,” she said, calling the home renovation a virtual life or death situation.
