LOMA LINDA, Calif. — Loma Linda University confirmed today that Caitlyn (formerly Bruce) Jenner has accepted an invitation to speak at a Women’s Ministries symposium to be held at the university this fall. “Currently we as Adventists do a lot of talking but embarrassingly little listening in regards to subcultures and lifestyles that we do not condone,” said Loma Linda spokesperson Karen McLarty. “It is time to rethink our approach. We are happy that Caitlyn Jenner has accepted our invitation to share her experience of becoming a woman.”

As a male, then-Bruce Jenner stunned the world first as an Olympic athlete in the 1970s and later as a motivational speaker and, most recently, as a cast member on the television reality show, “Keeping up with the Kardashians.”

A believer in God, Jenner has said that she believes she has been put on this earth to help bring awareness to the lives and struggles of transgender people. Jenner has repeatedly stated that she wishes “to do some good” with her platform.

“Just because we don’t agree with the lifestyle decisions of a group of people doesn’t mean that we should heartlessly judge and shun them,” said McLarty. “Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we as Adventists were known for the kind of brave love and listening ear that Jesus had for prostitites and other social outcasts of his day? So often we stop short of the courageous love Christianity promotes because we fear the appearance of compromise. Meanwhile we completely miss the point as we insulate ourselves from a hurting world.”

I realize the part about a speaking appointment at LLU is a joke, but why would they wait till now to invite him/her? As “spokesperson Karen McLarty” said, “we insulate ourselves from a hurting world.” They should have invited him long ago.

I know this is satire, but it shouldn’t be.

It would be all good if Caitlyn really were coming.

As for the part about Adventists (and many other Christians) retreating into their churches to insulate themselves from the reality of a hurting world, that’s not satire.

You know the Catholics have the St. Vincent de Paul Society that runs “soup kitchens” in many cities to feed the hungry and homeless . . . why don’t Adventists do something like that?

  3. All right people, hold the judgments on former Bruce Jenner. In 1977 he spoke at PUC, which was miraculous, we all thought at the time. Why would a Wheaties-level Gold-medal Decathlete want to come speak at PUC? He did. He signed my BFF’s sneaker. I wonder if she still has the sneaker. He was encouraging, inspiring, and a lot of fun! And handsome!

“Just because we don’t agree with the lifestyle decisions of a group of people doesn’t mean that we should heartlessly judge and shun them,” said McLarty.

Just because we all don’t enjoy Sewerage Treatment Plants doesn’t mean we have to be further exposed to them by having our noses stuffed in them to know what sh*t is !

      Such a loving statement.
Jesus died for us ALL. No person is sh*t in His eyes, and we are suppose to treat His children, saved or not, with love.

      1 Corinthians 13:4-7 –
Love is patient, love is KIND. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

      1 John 4:7-12 –
Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.

  5. Any unsuspecting visitors should note: “BarelyAdventist is a satire and humor blog on Adventist culture and issues.”

“Please note that this story, like others on this site, is a joke. All characters and incidents appearing in this ‘report’ are fictitious or parodied. Any resemblance to real persons, living or dead (or events, past or future) is purely coincidental and/or is solely for purposes of parody, satire, irony, caricature, or comedy. If you do not find these stories funny, please see your doctor to check your sense of humor (or maybe he should check your pulse). After all, laughter is the best medicine.”

What did you mean: as “he” is, or as “she” is? And here is a conundrum: which gender will he/she be when he/she reaches heaven? Will it be the birth gender, or the current new gender? Or will there even be any gender in heaven? Will gender be done away, like Jesus said marriage will not exist in heaven? Just wondering.

First of all, this is satire.

      Second of all:

Caitlin is a soul to be saved. AMEN!! Imagine the pastor baptizing a former Olympian swimmer in that small tank!!I hope she/he will autograph recent photos while at the symposium. I’ll be in line for an autograph. I’ll save the pen for posterity. I’ll frame the signature for future investment. Enough already. Let’s get on with the show. Woe is me!!
