General Conference begs Ben Carson not to run for president

SILVER SPRING, Md. — It is all but certain that Adventist pediatric neurosurgeon Ben Carson is running for US president in 2016. Since his recent entrance into politics, Carson has made headlines with a string of polarizing comments that have appealed to a narrow sliver of his base but confused and infuriated thousands of Adventists. Sensing trouble ahead, Church leaders have asked Carson to drop out of politics.

“Normally we’d be proud of an Adventist in the limelight,” said Religious Liberty GC Director, Victor Chase. “Dr. Carson has an amazing rags-to-riches story and he’s inspired thousands of kids. But then he got into politics.”

Carson has compared Obamacare to slavery, linked gays to pedophiles, called for a travel ban from Ebola-stricken countries and suggested the 2016 national election may not take place. The former neurosurgeon has drawn more and more attention with each of his appearances at political rallies or on television. “Each comment seems more extreme than the last,” said Chase. “It’s only a matter of time before everyone knows that he is Adventist and then we’re all in for a rough ride.”

Church leaders from across the political spectrum have signed a petition titled “PLEASE DON’T” in which they implore Carson to abandon politics. The petition reminds Carson that he has “gifted hands, not gifted lips” and that politics is not the only arena in which to “think big” after his decorated medical career.

          1. Dr. Ben Carson has nothing but praise for what highly acclaimed scholars, accomplished dissident scientists, award-winning journalists and the world’s most courageous political activists are denouncing. True Seventh-day Adventists don’t believe in praising the false prophet power of Rev. 13. Sadly, Dr. Carson sides with Reichpublicans in disseminating demonically crafted propaganda.

          2. Highly acclaimed scholars, accomplished dissident scientists, award-winning journalists and the world’s most courageous political activists are not trolls. Furthermore, it’s obvious that Dr. Ben Carson should be opposed on moral grounds because he sides with the ideology of Libertarian propagandists, which is widely identified with the satanic philosophy of Ayn Rand. I FOR ONE, LOOK FORWARD TO HAVING AN SDA IN THE OVAL OFFICE. NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. MANY MEN WERE CHOSEN BY GOD FOR ROLES OF LEADERSHIP IN GOVERNMENT: JOSEPH, DAVID, DANIEL, MOSES, ESTHER. SO BACK OFF AND LET THE MAN DO WHAT HE THINKS IS HIS CIVIC DUTY! HE DOES NOT ANSWER TO ANYONE OTHER THAN HIS CREATOR.
PS. GOD IS A MAN OF WAR….. PER EXODUS, IF FORGET WHICH PASSAGE. GO CUBS.

    1. All Reichpublicans say that. Dr. Ben Carson says it. As for destroying millions of lives directly, most Reichpublicans don’t dare to oppose the senseless mass murders of The Global Security/Military Industrial Complex. Certainly there hasn’t been a peep about this from Dr. Carson. Do you care to comment about their hypocrisy?

      1. RICK

WHAT IN THE WORLD ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?
        PS, YOU SPELL IT “REPUBLICAN”.
BUT THEN AGAIN I GATHER YOU ARE DEMOCRAT SO THAT EXPLAINS THAT. ME…. NO POLITICAL TIES, I JUST GO WITH THE CANDIDATE WHOSE VALUES AND IDEALS I LIKE BEST. SOME HAVE BEEN FROM THE RIGHT AND OTHERS FROM WHATS LEFT.

          1. RICK

AGREED, BUT YOU NEED TO GO TASTE THE CRAP IN OTHER PLACES TO APPRECIATE WHAT WE HAVE HERE EVEN IF ITS NOT IDEAL. TRY CUBA, ANY ARAB COUNTRY, MEXICO, ANY AFRICAN COUNTRY….. ON AND ON.

          2. If security, safety and freedom from violence, GMO foods and fluoridated water was my only concern, then my personal preference would be to retire in any of the far more enlightened countries of Europe. Nevertheless, I would still be afraid of consequences of U.S. foreign policy. Besides, I think that I have a moral duty to stay here and speak against the satanic delusions that Ben Carson advocates.

    2. Lindy

Yah…God forbid that we should have to provide health care for those who desperately need it. After all, we only wasted 1.4 trillion dollars on a ridiculous war killing hundreds of thousands in Iraq. But when Jesus comes, he won’t ask who you healed, he will want to know the number you killed.

Nobody has to worry about Dr. Carson’s becoming President; the way that he speaks nullifies that possibility! Can anyone imagine having to listen to him give a State of the Union address? (And Dr. Carson had the audacity to stand in front of President Obama–while speaking at the National Prayer Breakfast–and denigrate the President during his speech)! The General Conference officials can use their time dealing with a POSSIBLE SITUATION, rather than wasting time on an IMPOSSIBLE OCCURRENCE! DR. CARSON HAS GOTTEN HIS GIFTS CONFUSED, but the General Conference doesn’t have to join him in his confusion. (If anyone has access to Dr. Carson, I certainly would appreciate your passing these messages on to him; I’ve wanted to get a message to him for a long time about recognizing the gifts that God has given him and those that he hasn’t and about not letting the REPUBLICAN PARTY USE HIM)! It’s very difficult for me to comprehend how a man who has the brainpower to separate siamese twins can’t use that same brain to realize that if the Repubs aren’t accepting President Obama–a quick-thinking, Harvard-educated, good-looking, immaculately dressed, oratorically gifted Black man–what on God’s Earth would make him think they would accept him? I think Dr. Carson needs a reality check or perhaps a visit to a psychologist’s or psychiatrist’s office to get help with some delusions or envy that he’s experiencing. But if his desire for power or his ego compels him to attempt to get the Republican Party’s nomination for U. S. President, he will be in for a very rude awakening, which just might force him into the acceptance of and gratitude for the gifts that God actually gave him and not the gifts that he evidently longs for. Ben Carson is nothing like Obama and could easily spin circles around this president and many others. Obama is nothing but a fake and has no respect for god and the founding of this country.

        1. Dianne Young

You forgot to mention, Lily, that Obama is a Muslim, is half black, has yet to provide ‘Harvard’ records (of which most graduates have been so brainwashed by professors wanting to destroy our nation), still gray areas about his place of birth, his evil/law-breaking constituents that he appoints left and right, his support of issues that are completely contrary to God’s plan to make/keep America great and protected. (On the not so serious side — good looking? Have you not seen Obama up close? All I see are ears! His demeanor? Reminds me of that ole song, “Charlie Brown .. Walks in the classroom, cool and slow….” “he’s a clown, that Charlie Brown.. Gonna get caught, just you wait and see..why’s everybody always picking on me!” I think Dr. Carson would allow blacks another chance to redeem their race … Put someone with class into the Oval Office that all could be proud of — especially blacks, who deserve a black president.

      2. Donna Lambert

Wow. Those Ph.d degrees must not be very hatd to obtain. Dr. Carson is a gifted speaker, doesn’t even use notes. Your guy can’t give a sppech without reading from a teleprompter.

        1. STU REDMAN

          AMEN TO THAT TOO.
LOOK, I MEAN LISTEN, I MEAN READ ON, IF GOD IS THE ONE WHO PLACES PEOPLE AND GOVERNMENT INTO POWER/POSITION THEN WE MUST ALSO ASSUME HE KNOWS WHAT HE IS DOING. BUT IS GOD STILL IN THE “ESTABLISHMENT OF KINGDOMS AND KINGS” BUSINESS? HMM.

  1. Stafford

I’m concerned that Dr Carson ‘ s public remarks are being mis – quoted.
If we truly believe the end time prophecy then we should not be perturbed by this public course if action. As a church we have been very silent on many moral, ethical and political issues and flying under the radar will not serve spreading this good news message that we have been commissioned to share. Let’s dialogue the messages being put out instead of trying to shut down the platform.

  2. Warren Nelson

barelyadventist.com has exposed two things. . . a total lack of self-awareness amongst the “faithful” and a equally astonishing inability to check sources before they go “full nukyaler” self-righteous on us!

On one hand they laud the good Dr. who hates political correctness and then insist on their own brand of “godly correctness” which is totally bereft of humor or even a grin!

  3. David Roth

One year ago I emailed Vernon Robinson, Campaign Director for the National Draft Ben Carson for President Committee (director@runbenrun.org) to notify him that Ben Carson is a card carrying Seventh-day Adventist, and that based on his view of “Sabbath keeping” and the cultic view many have of the SDA church, it may end up being problematic for the campaign and for Dr. Carson should he win elected office. Vernon Robinson and staff were very unconcerned about the matter. SDA’s are viewed in a similar light with the LDS church (Mormon), so there is a lot of “religious fodder” the news media has available to them should his run for President become more serious. And no, there is no satire in this post.

  4. Diane

Those of you wanting him to run should maybe consider why GC doesn’t want him to run. It’s definitely not the reason alone given in the article. This will mean the press not only dissecting his life and that of his family, but the church. Are you sure this church can stand up to that type of scrutiny? GC doesn’t. I know many of you believe that our church is here ready for translation, but we are closer to a RCC. Type scandal. It’s best he doesn’t run.

    1. Well, There are Tow sides to Consider, based on what I gather by Reading your Statement Diane, First I would love and hate to see him win the Presidancy, I think there is so much Good he would do, But I am 35 now, and Ben Carson is a hero of my Childhood, I read his books and they Inspired me to learn, If for some reasion he did Get Elected I am afraid he would be assasinated, Second if your right the Very scrutiny it would go under could well be the storm or shaking we know this church will have to go thru, No one willingly heads strait into the strom, But the fact is there may be no other way, if ever there was a time to stay awake it is Now. I hope he chooses not to run.

  5. melisssa

I am Seventh Day Adventist and I will vote for Ben Carson. I would not want him to run but just because politics is very dirty, but if he does I will support him.
I think he is a very wise man and God will bless him as well US if he is a president of the US

    1. Melissa, they will attack his faith, his beliefs and his family. Ben stands up for the truth, the biblical truth, that will annoy people like Skipper, Lilly and Beverly. We need to pray fro them or they will be sharing Skipper’s residence.

    2. STU REDMAN

HELLO MELISSA. YES I TOO WILL VOTE FOR DR CARSON IF HE IS ON THE BALLOT. IT WILL BE TOUGH FOR HIM, HE IS NOT A POLITICIAN BUT IF HE ALWAYS SEEKS GOD HELP HE SHOULD BE OK. IF GOD WANTS HIM IN THE WHITE HOUSE, THEN IT WILL HAPPEN.

  6. Kwabs

I don’t get this. What do Adventists have to hide. So the man was good enough to save lives on the operating table but not good enough to run for public office and write the wrongs of society. Even Jesus was ridiculed for his good intended work. Stop pulling the man down and let him run and let God decide our destinies. So help us God. No man has the right to determine the destiny and direction of another.

  7. Tina Douville

I must say that I am getting increasing perturbed by this site — barelyadventist. I have so many Adventist friends forwarding these ludicrous posts around, either believing them to be true, or finding them funny. There is a tiny statement at the top “Adventist satire and humor” that many people miss.

Even when understood to be satire, I find a lot of the articles also poke fun at actual raw issues. I find it divisive and a poor witness. Maybe I’m alone in this.

        1. Tina Douville

I’m glad you don’t. It’s probably true that most people get that it’s fake. But based on the comments I read, I can only conclude that many people do believe at least some of the stories are true.

I am also concerned about people outside the church who read these articles in their Adventist friends’ feeds and don’t have the personal knowledge to question whether they’re fake. They must think ‘what a cracked church!’

  8. Skipper36

Please, please, please, please run. Your integrity is in shambles, your knowledge of US history is deplorable, your understanding of the Constitution is twisted, and your bigotry is palpable. Being a great neurosurgeon doesn’t qualify you any more to hold political office than my brilliant auto mechanic is qualified to be a neurosurgeon.

You are a perfect example of a GOP leader. Only have to add sociopathy to the mix if you haven’t already done so.

Those who support you must be diseased with the same brain infection as you.

Allow me to tell you what I really think…

(Only the last sentence is satire.)

    1. tag garmon

Skipper 36…Your calling Ben Carson a bigot? Where do you get that? His integrity is in shambles? Can you explain that to me…Are you personally connected to the man enough to know of his integrity? What have I missed? I have read two of his books and found his understanding of history and the constitution to be broad and in-depth …though I may not agree with all of his foreign policy views I respect the articulation of his perspective in print for all to see. I am interested to know your opinion …what qualifies an individual to run for public office?

  9. alexandra

Hey why don’t you want to view this situation from another angle.
Probably the Holy Spirit will work through this opportunity to reach more ppl out there. To let them know about the light we possess and finally convince their hearts about the Bible truths.
Yes the church will be under the magnifying glass and we should be very happy about it. In regards to Mr. Carson’s statements, it is pretty obvious for any man/woman that the man has a fine sense of humor.

  10. skywalker

Not all Adventist are Christian. Dr. Carson seems to be one who does not follow the model of Christ. He’s not the only Adventist in this boat, so run if you want Ben. The church should have now say in your political aspirations. They should just be prepared to clarify where your beliefs are different from Christ’s.

      1. Sara

Yes, you are right. The church and the state should not mix. However, the meaning of this statement as I see it is that the leadership of a specific religion or denomination as a whole should not make up the political lawmakers or leadership of a country, state, city, etc. Is that not the way you see it?
If that is the meaning of “separation of church and state”, then I have no issue with Ben Carson running for president, same as I would have no issue with a Baptist running for president. Just because a person has a specific personal religious belief doesn’t mean that as President, he/she would try to make it the official state religion or something.

        A question for skywalker:
In what ways do Ben Carson’s beliefs differ from Christ’s teachings?

        1. Another major difference between Ben Carson’s beliefs and Christ’s teachings is that Christ never praised the Roman Empire yet Dr. Carson wrote a whole book in praise of what many Adventists understand to be the false prophet power of Revelation 13. It’s interesting then that Dr. Carson advocates having a cashless society, which is an undeniable move to empower the United States government with greater control of society and the next step to fulfill Revelation 13:17.

When forming the ideas that became the foundation for our Constitution the founders , in declaring the Independence of this new land ,wrote that ” …all men are created equal and endowed by their CREATOR” with certain rights….I am glad they recognized that the State had no power to afford “rights” to people but that our rights come from God…as individuals,,,and their idea was
that whatever laws were established by the government to govern men were rightfully subservient to and could not infringe upon those given to each of us by God, our Creator. I am Glad they did Not leave God out of Politics!

    1. RICK

NO ONE FOLLOWS THE MODEL OF CHRIST, LEST YOU BE SUCKED UP INTO HEAVEN. BUT BEING ADVENTIST (AS I AM) IS NOT A FREE TICKET TO HEAVEN EITHER. THE ADVENTIST CHURCH IS ONE OF MANY WHO ACCEPTS CHRIST AS THEIR LORD AND SAVIOR. CHRIST TOLD HIS DISCIPLES TO GO PREACH THE GOOD NEWS (THE SACRIFICE OF THE CROSS AND THE RESURRECTION). MOST OTHER PROTESTANT CHURCHES ALIGN WITH SDA, IN FUNDAMENTAL ISSUES, BELIEF, LOVE AND ACCEPTANCE OF CHRIST. ALL OTHER ISSUES SUCH AS DIET, SABBATHS, CLOTHING, TITHE, ELLEN G WHITE, ARE SIDE ISSUES WHICH ARE NON SALVATION RELATED. WE STAND FIRM ON SABBATH AS THE JEWS DO. BUT THE JEWS EVEN FOR THERE IDOL WORSHIP OF THE SABBATH, YES MANY JEWS WORSHIP THE SABBATH, ITS THERE IDOL, SOME SDA TOO.

      1. RICK

DO YOU WANT TO ENJOY BEING CHRISTIAN? ADVENTIST? READ ROMANS WITH EMPHASIS ON CHP 14 AND 15.
START ENJOYING THE LIBERTIES JESUS GAVE US WHEN HE DIED FOR US. SADLY AS ADVENTIST WE WANT TO BRING THE YOKE OF THE JEWS UPON US AND THUS JUSTIFY OUR LIVES.

    2. STU REDMAN

NOT ALL ADVENTIST ARE CHRISTIANS, SO TRUE. THERE ARE KIDS EVEN AS YOUNG AS 7 YEARS OLD WHO ARE BEING BAPTIZED!!! IS THERE REALLY A DIFFERENCE IN THE MIND AND HEART OF A 7 YEAR OLD AND AN INFANT? CAN THE SOUL BE CONVICTED AT THAT AGE TO MAKE A DECLARATION OF LIFE FOR CHRIST? AND YET WE NEED THE NUMBERS, SO LOAD EM UP.

  11. kayrosburg

Please people…..don’t read the posts on this blog if you don’t enjoy satire and can’t stand laughing at yourself. I think the posts are all hilarious and I get a chuckle every day when the posts arrive in my email inbox. Lighten up….or better yet…just stop reading this blog!!

    1. I intend to stop reading this and no longer attend an SDA church but this site does more harm than good to the SDA denomination unless your just a pew warmer in an SDA church and don’t really believe what it teaches and I know there are many like that. I have one question for the founders of this site. If you are really and truly members of the SDA denomination, do you really feel the Holy Spirit has led you to put up this site filled with satire and nonsense?

      1. emare

They have the Spiritual Gift of satire. It’s one of the lesser known, but equally important, Gifts of the Spirit, along with sarcasm, nonsense, and parody. “Don’t you know, the things of God are nonsense to the world.”

  12. Dan

While the church may not like his political opinions many of them are accurate. Obamacare….a system where choice is removed from the process and replaced with government mandates….and such mandates are ALWAYS backed up by the implied and if necessary use of force….IS a type of slavery. Gay men often engage in pedophilic practices. That this offends gay people is irrelevant as the people who should be of concern are the victims. Ebola has NO EFFECTIVE TREATMENT and NO VACCINE. The best we can do is try to keep the patient from dying till their own body cures itself. A quarantine preventing people from leaving an infected area and taking the disease is a rational and useful tool, one that has been practiced effectively by society for centuries.
America routinely quarantined TB before the discovery of antibiotics….a few complained then but the rationale was still proper. Banning travel from Africa is the single most effective method currently possible in controlling the spread of the disease. Dr. Carson is medically correct to call for a travel ban even if it is politically incorrect. And his statement that an election may not occur in 2016 while speculation is certainly not an irrational statement nor an impossibility. The criminal misconduct and communist agenda’s being pursued by the current administration makes such an idea entirely possible.

Dr. Carson while not perfect could certainly do a much better job in office than virtually ALL the current officeholders at the national level and probably most state politicians. He DOES however need some schooling on the Consitution. The fact that he does not like nor approve of guns in no way changes the fact that the Second Amendment is real and that self defense, both against criminals and tyrants is a God given right and interfering with that right is a sin, a crime and treasonous.

I am ashamed of the tax exempt SDA Church’s Religious Liberty Director Victor Chase ! Victor is the one who should stay out of politics period & if he does not will cause the trouble not Ben Carson ! I want Victor fired because he is in a Liberty position & doing politacally the opposite ! “Where the Spirit of The Lord is there is LIBERTY”. 2nd Corinthians 3:17 May be it is time for all to come out of her my people because she is corrupt ! Proclaim & live the 3 Angels Messages ! God’s remnant are those that are doing our Awesome Creator’s will ! By their bad fruits we know, come out ! Dr. Ben Carson has my endorcement & I am proud he is proclaiming & living the truth !!!!!!!

  14. Liberty Larry

SDA’s claim to keep all the commandments in God’s Holy WORD ? How about Leviticus Chapter 23? Yes they try to keep the Sabbath Feast of The Lord but He commands to keep 3 Feast of the LORD annually ! So they do not keep all the commands of our Awesome Creator God ! The only thing nailed to the cross was Jesus Christ & He died for our sins. Hallelujah ! He then fulfilled the Temple sacrificial system ! The Feast (Holidays) were never abolished just as the SABBATH FEAST OF THE LORD was not ! God does not change man does & false heathen holidays were set up as counterfeits deceiving many ! If U LOVE Him keep all His Commandments ! Please read and study His Holy Word !!!!!!!

    1. Matthew B

You are deceived. By clinging to the law contained in ordinances you are in essence rejecting the anti-type of which these types foreshadowed. There is no virtue in maintaining these Jewish rites. You are repeating the errors of the judiazers in the early days of the church when they attempted to foist circumcision upon the gentile Christians. The Sabbath of the Lord is not a type like the other sabbaths. It is a memorial of creation that preceded the Jewish economy by 2000 years. Please abandon your course of independence and unite with the Remnant.

      1. RICK

THE SABBATH WAS MADE FOR MAN, NOT MAN FOR THE SABBATH.
IE: THE SABBATH IS HERE FOR MAN. MAN IS NOT HERE FOR THE SABBATH.
IF MAN WAS MADE FOR THE SABBATH, WE WOULD BE SUBJECT TO THE SABBATH.
MATT IS RIGHT, WE HAVE TO STOP MAKING THE SABBATH OUR IDOL. USE IT FOR ITS ORIGINAL INTENT AND ENJOY IT BUT STOP WITH THE BURDENS OUR SDA AND JEWISH FATHERS THROW AT US.

What about Isiah 14.10 or is that 10.14 That Speaks of the Morning Star while talking to a Lesser Babylonian king when he says “Oh thou Lucifer , Sun of the Morning” . The basicly sail Venus and all think that his Satirical reference was to the Devil . When actually saying “You think the sun rises and sets upon you!” Satire is actually pre-Adventist! Praise God!

  15. Richard Mills

Running for President of the US doesn’t mean one is elected. Carson is the kind of guy we need to right the sinking ship. As President he will sign an Executive Order #1 for everyone to keep the 7th day Sabbath. All of America off the same day. All families together. Another Executive Order # 2 for every American to be vegetarian. Reduces huge health care expenses-hence no more Obamacare. Executive Order #3-everybody pays a faithful tithe. Think of the blessings!! What we got here is a modern Daniel. Back to the good old days. What if Carson runs for GC President?. Woe is me!

  16. anton vorster

The church are a bunch of ninnies!…separation of church and state is man-made….the high priest was both prophet and king (church and state)…go for it Dr Ben Carson!! Evil prospers when good men sit on their hands and do nothing!!

  17. Randall Billington

If much of the audience can’t tell it’s satire, then it’s probably not, or at least not very good.

Calling this satire is like calling mud pies gastronomy. Satire is a genre of literature in which vices, follies, abuses, and shortcomings are held up to ridicule with the intent of leading to improvement. Although meant to be humorous, its greater purpose is constructive social criticism, using wit as a weapon and as a tool to draw attention to important issues.

So far as I can tell, and after having read through all the comments, this post has none of those merits and accomplishes none of those goals. I don’t see any possibility that a reader might say, “Aha! Now I see things in a new and clearer light, and I see that things need to change.” Those who find it amusing do so in a clubby, cliiquish sort of “aren’t we the in group?” way, while the majority seem to take it seriously, and either view it with approval or disapproval, but without any particular insight, which is hardly surprising since the article doesn’t really seem to have a point other than to allow the “in group” to say “hardy har har, hey it was satire” amongst themselves. To end as I began, if much of the audience can’t tell it’s satire, then it’s probably not, or at least not very good.

  18. Chuck

So GC is afraid that his run for the presidency will bring negative attention to Adventists? News flash, whatever is going to happen whether Carsom runs or not. Don’t get scared now, we constantly pray for the end and for Jesus to come so welcome to the closing act!!!!!!

  19. kayrosburg

I would venture to say that the vast majority of people who read this blog DO understand that it is meant to be humorous and satirical. They (like myself) just don’t post replies on a regular basis because they don’t take it seriously. We do the minimal click of the “LIKE” button. Man, the people who are so upset by this site’s attempt to poke fun at ourselves (speaking as a weekly church-attending Adventist) really are “humor-challenged”! As a side note…..these are the same people I come into contact with who don’t understand sarcasm at all….and that’s my preferred form of humor.

    1. Randall Billington

People may find humor in whatever they wish, but your remarks suggest that many on this site may not understand sarcasm or satire as literary devices. Sarcasm seeks to make a specific point — one that can be understood and articulated — by ostensibly stating the opposite (e.g., After cleaning the toilet, “Oh, that was my FAVORITE job.”) So far, I’ve not seen anyone articulate what the POINT of this post is. What is it that we are supposed to “get”? What is the suggested “insight”? What is the circumstance to be seen in a new light that should be changed? I can’t see any. If someone else can, I’d be interested in hearing what they take to be the point of the post.

So far as I can tell, this post is more akin to a prank — as in shows like “Punked” or “Candid Camera,” where a situation is fabricated to appear one way, followed by pulling the curtain back with a “gotcha” moment and giggles.

If you still insist that this post qualifies as satire, you might want to reconsider your charges that other are humor-challenged. I don’t know what church you attend, and it may be that the congregation displays an overall lack of appreciation for the things that many would find funny. But if you are familiar with those known to be masters of satire, such as Moliere Robert Benchley, Dave Barry and Woody Allen, I suspect you would agree that posts like the one giving rise to this discussion rank right down there with “underwear jokes”,

      1. Obviously the ‘joke’ is that IF the General Conference were to object of Ben Carson were to become the President, that the only reason they would object is that he tells the truth about the current President, the current state of things in the country, and also things like Homosexuality and so forth.

But the TRUTH is that the Seventh Day Adventist Church Prophet, Ellen White clearly told the SDA Church several times that our people are NOT to get involved in Politics.

        1. STU REDMAN

REALLY? THAT ASPIRATES. WHERE DID THE FOUNDERS OF SDA WRITE THAT? AND SPEAKING OF POLITICS, GC AND STATE, LOCAL CONFERENCES ARE VERY POLITICAL. I ASKED A PASTOR ONCE ABOUT THE PROCESS IN WHICH PASTORS ARE ASSIGNED NEW JOBS, HE SAYS IT IS NOT REALLY A CALLING, ITS WHO YOU KNOW AND WHO YOUR FRIENDS ARE IF YOU WANT A DECENT ASSIGNMENT.

  20. Linda

“The government under which Jesus lived was corrupt and oppressive; on every hand were crying abuses—extortion, intolerance, and grinding cruelty. Yet the Saviour attempted no civil reforms. … He who was our example kept aloof from earthly governments.” [Counsels for the Church p. 314.]

    1. Not only is our gooberment corrupt and oppressive, it has also killed many more innocent persons than the Roman Empire has done. It also disseminates demonically crafted propaganda. The problem is that Seventh-day Adventist leaders have nothing but praise for the false prophet power.

    2. STU REDMAN

HOWEVER, JESUS SAID “GIVE TO CESAR WHAT IS CESAR’S AND TO GOD WHAT IS GOD’S. MONEY WAS NOT THE ONLY THING HE WAS TALKING ABOUT, HE ALSO MEANT, CIVIL DUTIES, OBEDIENCE TO LAW, ETC. GOD DID NOT OFFER A KING TO THE JEWS, THEY REQUESTED ONE, BUT GOD MADE THEM SUBJECT TO THE KING, ORDER AND JUSTICE, FIGHTING FOR YOUR COUNTRY.

if he runs, it will be a matter of time before SDA beliefs will be closely examined. There will be conflict with those who hold the pope in such high esteem and because we don’t, that will be problematic. I would hate to see what they are going to do to his good name. Polictics is a nasty business

  22. Ken, Kenya

As usual, our church is only concerned with the denominational reputation. Agape would set Dr. Carson to do what his heart tells him!!
See what GC Liberty Director is saying: “Each comment seems more extreme than the last,” said Chase. “It’s only a matter of time before everyone knows that he is Adventist and then we’re all in for a rough ride.”
It is all about our denominational reputation, nothing else!!

    1. Lily M. James, Ph. D.

Then, our reputation is in for smooth cruising because Dr. Ben Carson will NEVER be elected President of the United States! The only thing that will be in for a rough ride will be his ego if he is naive enough to throw his hat into the Presidential candidates’ ring, where he will be resoundingly rejected. Without even considering his platform and policies, people would not be able to tolerate his poor speaking ability–to say little about his lackluster, non-charismatic persona! I have known ever since the first time I heard him speak at my church in the 1990s that he is not an effective speaker, but I respected him for his God-given neurosurgery skills. However, surgery skills or not, I lost respect for him when he showed open disrespect for President Obama in his remarks at the National Prayer Breakfast; at that time he took advantage of a “captive” audience and espoused his views on matters that he had not been invited to speak upon at that event. It seemed to me that Dr. Carson should have shown some appreciation for the President’s refusal to nix the idea of having a distinguished Black man to speak at the event–even though he must have known (or could have easily found out via the internet) that Dr. Carson does not possess the gift of oratory.

  23. Ben Carson should stick with what he knows, and politics is not it. He also, needs to stop repeating the rhetoric of the gop (i.e. take back our country). He is the very kind of person they are talking in code about. He can run, but he doesn’t stand a snowball of a chance.

  24. I’d vote for Carson in a heartbeat (if only I could vote in the US). Romney is LDS and that was not a big issue in the last election. Most people know so little about Adventists that any press we get is good press – maybe get people studying? Run Ben Run!

  25. Lily M. James, Ph. D.

If Dr. Carson wants to run for U. S. President, that’s his prerogative, but it’s also my prerogative to state my opinion about his chance for success in such an undertaking. Therefore, I still contend that the General Conference–for whatever reasons this body has concerns–does not have to spend time and energy on the possibility of Dr. Ben Carson’s becoming the President of the United States because he is not electable to this position.

    1. Vicki

READERS AND BARELY ADVENTIST PLEASE NOTE- here is an example of someone with a PhD who thought this website was giving a legitimate report of facts and took it as a serious article. Not because she is not intelligent- but because the website is using falsified methods including names and quotation marks which make a fictitious article seem believable. This is not funny or cute, neither is it innocent – it’s fraudulent.

TO THOSE WHO CARE- I ENCOURAGE YOU TO WRITE THE GENERAL CONFERENCE LEGAL DEPARTMENT TO REGISTER A COMPLAINT AGAINST BARELY ADVENTIST.

      1. Vicki

I don’t mean to be unkind, and we might assume that the writers meant no harm directly, but I feel that it is very important that when something is being done that is misleading in nature and is obviously misleading a lot of people something should be done or said about it to help people realize that this is not really acceptable.

No hard feelings- may the Lord bless you all.

    2. I agree you are right on….however it is still embarrassment to our church and what we should represent….and could in reality cause seventh-day Adventist to be hated as he has no tact or kindness…I am conservative. I don’t believe in gay marriage and would never vote for it however we don’t have to be hateful or arrogant…I actually am for a lot of what Obama stands for as far as health care…his ideas…and feel he was the much better choice than the alternatives running for president and have voted for him both times…and am white female conservative sda. I’m Also thankful he keeps religion and politics separate as is a far healthier president….despite whether I like Obama or not…Carson is not representing himself or our beliefs in a very favorable light.

  26. Vicki

THIS SITE SHOULD RECEIVE SOME TYPE OF CHARGES FOR FALSIFICATION OF DATA. IT IS OPENLY FRAUDULENT TO WRITE ARTICLES WITH FALSE QUOTATIONS AND FALSE STATEMENTS LIKE THIS. IT IS CAUSING A LOT OF CONFUSION.

      1. Vicki

I am not at all supportive of Ben Carson running for president, but I have a complaint about this website because of having seen that a lot of people who read and post articles from this website seem to honestly think it is an acurate source of information due to the false way in which they list names and give exact quotes of things.

“BarelyAdventist …is written by committed Adventists that have no interest in tearing down the church.” This is a false statement just like most everything that is posted from this website. Making a mokery of every Adventist issue is not constructive in any way and certainly is a pointed attempt to tear down the Adventist Chruch. It also shows little respect or love for sacred things.

Like a madman who throws Firebrands, arrows and death, 19 So is the man who deceives his neighbor, And says, “Was I not joking?” Proverbs 26:18

        1. When God would have a special work done for the advancement of the truth, He will impress men to work in the mines of truth with prayerful earnestness to discover the precious ore. These men will have Christlike perseverance. They will not fail or be discouraged. They will sink self out of sight in Jesus. Men will go forth in the spirit and power of Elijah to prepare the way for the second advent of the Lord Jesus Christ. It is their work to make crooked things straight. Some things must be torn down, some things must be built up. The old treasures must be reset in a framework of truth. They are to preach God’s Word; their testimony must not be molded by the opinions and ideas that have been regarded as sound, but by the Word of God, which liveth and abideth forever. {1888 169.1}

I say again, Dr. Ben Carson should be opposed for the emptiness of his political message, which sounds too much like the ideology of Libertarian propagandists, which is widely identified with the satanic philosophy of Ayn Rand.

        2. Paula

Sometimes, satire is a way to get people to see things that it would be too rude to say to them directly.
For example, it would be nicer for me to tell you a funny story about a friend whose haughtiness got her in trouble than to follow my natural tendency to call you a self-righteous, humorless, old biddy.
That being said, this site makes Adventist look at the things we hold equal to or above God’s word. It does it in an amusing way, but I think the intention is to make us less stuffy and more open to hurting people who need what the church can offer.

  27. Guy K. Goodness

I typically enjoy posts from this site, and find them rather humorous. While I realize these posts are meant to be “satire”, this one rubbed me the wrong way. It is not hard to tell that the author of this post is clearly against Carson’s political beliefs, and fundamental conservative values. I personally find it hard to believe that any God fearing, Adventist Christian could see it another way.

“Carson has made headlines with a string of polarizing comments that have appealed to a narrow sliver of his base but confused and infuriated thousands of Adventists.” Are you kidding me? If the federal government forces you to buy a healthcare plan that you don’t want, has very limited options, and is adding billions of dollars to our debt, I do liken that to a form of slavery. Carson understands that government is not the solution and based on our understanding of prophecy knows that government control will cause this whole society to eventually collapse. Also, if you think taking the utmost precautions by implementing a travel ban on Ebola stricken countries is an extremist position, you need a reality check. I don’t think belief in the constitution, support of traditional marriage and religious views, and speaking against “politicial correctness” are extreme views or positions to take.

I may be ignorant in saying this, but I’m betting the majority of Adventists would be thrilled to see him run for president. The guy is a rockstar and he shows it based on his past background in medicine and the way he can articulate his beliefs in a simple, commonsense manner.
As to Adventists not being ready for the limelight; If we think we will ever be ready, than we will never be. I don’t care whatever issues or problems we have been dealing with inside the church, there is no better time than now to put our church in the limelight. There is not a better representative than Ben Carson. Let us pray that we as Adventists can be solid, individual representatives of what a Christian is when the spotlight is on us.

    1. Well said Guy, honesty and integrity Ben is, an example of a Christian, Ben is and an example of an Adventist, what more could you ask for? Joseph was asked to lead a nation, I believe Ben is being ask, please we all need to pray for his strength.

      1. Ray Kraft

A year ago. Dr. Carson was on record saying that every American should have health insurance. Fox News reports (today) that in the Iowa caucus he has declared that he would “abolish Obamacare even if it worked” (it does) and that the “government should not be involved in healthcare.”

        So, he’s done an about-face.

And if he’s consistent, now, he should also abolish Medicare, and Medicaid and the VA? Right? Or maybe he isn’t bothered by inconsistency?

Jesus said, “Feed the hungry. Care for the sick. Shelter the homeless.”

        Matthew 25.

If America can’t do that, then America can’t claim to be a “Christian Nation,” officially or unofficially.

        Seems to me Dr. Carson has turned his back on the words of Jesus.;

        Some Christian.

If he’s sold his soul to politics, he’s gonna be a HUGE embarrassment to the Adventist church if he runs, and a HUGER embarrassment if he wins.

It’s a very funny thing, if funny is the right word. America is the only rich, developed country in the world that doesn’t have some kind of national health care for all, and conservative Americans are strangely and vigorously opposed to the idea of spending tax dollars so poor Americans can go to the doctor when they’re sick.

But they’re happy to spend trillions on weapons to kill people.

And then they like to think America is a “Christian Nation.”

  28. Ajani Cornelius Ayodele

An individual should be left alone to his or personal views and opinions. Ben Carson need not be judged on the issue of his religious affiliation if he chooses to run for the office of the President of the United of America. To me the G.C. should stay out of this and not bring the name of the church into issue that is private. After all he is not going to run for the said office in the name or on behalf of the Church.

    1. STU REDMAN

LOL. SO TRUE. I’M EX CATHOLIC INSPITE OF THAT. WHAT DID JESUS SAY WHEN THE PHARISEES SAID HE WAS SATANIC? “IS SATAN IS AGAINST SATAN, HE WILL NOT STAND. A HOUSE DIVIDED AND ALL THAT…. LAST I SAW, THERE ARE GOD FEARING PEOPLE IN THE CATHOLIC CHURCH, THE CATHOLIC CHURCH ACCEPT JESUS AS THEIR SAVIOUR AND THE SACRIFICE HE DID. THAT IS THE GOSPEL.

  29. Tony S.

Always interesting to read comments from people who do nothing…also, I see we have a lot of “Gods” commenting…like you know Carson’s God-given gifts…Sit back and Pray that God gives Carson His Words to Speak…just like God did for Moses thru Aaron (or did you all forget your Sabbath School lessons from Primary & Junior classes?)

  30. Sergio E.

Growing up as a member of the SDA church i am disappointed to hear these comments from the G.C.. If Dr.Ben Carson really wants to run for president, for the good of America and the people that live in this great nation, let it be. Everybody has a dream. And if Dr. Carson’s dream is to be President, that doesn’t make him less Adventist or Christian.

  31. Mantembu

Saul didn’t want David to be a king, Moses was once a basket case, Daniel got exiled and many many great stories in the bible prove that God picked and chose particular people to lead the nation. God bless you Dr. Carson

  32. Doug Campbell

The General Conference not wanting Dr. Carson to run speaks volumes regarding their own faith in God almighty. Having a prominent doctor such as Ben Carson represent a religous faith while holding the highest office should be the greatest compliment to the Adventist movement. Dr. Carsons run for President will be determined by the same authority that gave this man skilled surgeon hands; a higher authority, God. It is my belief he will be guided and it is my belief the GC will be delt with as well. This country needs a God fearing man in the office, we are witnessing daily what it is like to live in a world without Christ; it’s a man made disaster. May God continue to bless Dr. Carson and I can only pray that we get behind this man and support him through prayer; God will give us the answer. In the military the saying, “Lead, Follow, or get the hell out of the way” applies to the General Conference! Dr. Carson is trying to lead and I will support him, not get in his way! Pray America we need all the help we can get.

  33. Ben Carson has problems. He is an embarrassment to the seventh-day Adventist church, who we are and what we should represent. His behavior is leaning towards narcissism. He has an obvious hatred towards president Obama…which comes across pathological and seems to have a jealousy Issue. Running for president is not exactly the role of seventh-day Adventists..and is not our place. It is very concerning…However with a church as large as we have we can expect a few quacks. I’m sure he has gifts…I have read his book However he seems to be becoming an abnoxious know it all….instead of representing a meek quiet spirit you would expect from someone in his position. Moses….Joseph…Christ…were meek loving men who would not seek to tear down. His most recent statement of the president being a psychopath…is unbelievable and ridiculous. something is wrong with seventh-day Adventists who are so threatened by Barak Obama. We should be a peculiar people not an eyesore…please! his behavior is not representative of Christ and as in the Pharisees of the New Testament a mockery. God is the one who places leaders and presidents…and is behind providence and history….why push yourself to achieve a place you don’t belong.

    1. I like the “meek quiet spirit” with which you address your disagreements with Dr. Carson.

Carson is supported by psychiatrists in his suspicion that Obama is a psychopath and/or a narcissistic personality. Christ called the leaders of his day out as “vipers” and “whitened crypts full of dead men’s bones.” We can debate the point. However, to call someone unchristlike because they express a professional opinion you disagree with is, well, unchristlike.

Carson says he feels called by God to run, who are you to question his call?

  34. President Obama is not a psychopath… It is very obvious. Carson had problems and that is a fact. Putting someone down in attempt to build yourself up is not in my opinion Christlike. I don’t feel Carson is behaving in a healthy or balanced way….or representing Christ much less our church. President Obama only tries to help people whether he is right or wrong. He is secular and should remain so compared with the nightmare of a religiously unbalanced person running for president and a seventh-day Adventist at that….Carson may mean well but I feel he is making a mistake. Not everyone who says they are being called by God are….he is very troubling and concerning. the majority of the republican party lately is concerning and why even as a sda I have had to vote otherwise. Installing a health care law that helps other people especially the poor and assuring more balance and fairness is far more noble than the crazy ideas of the religious right. I’m. Embarrassed how people are behaving…something just isn’t adding up here…I am expressing my opinion as to his troubling behavior. Being invited to do prayer at a presidential breakfast and then turning around and putting down the president is not appropriate…he would have been better to do his job, be kind and stand for what he believes if asked. Barry black is an example of a sda who was placed in a position to influence in a political arena and he did this with grace, humility and tact…

    1. When God talks to other people you are not privy to the conversation and as such can not judge their call.

Carson did not put the President down, he expressed a dissenting opinion. The fact that Obama’s supporters think holding a dissenting opinion is an act of treason is much more concerning in a democratic republic than anything Carson said. Why would you have the right to question someone being called of God, but others do not have a right to question a mortal?

Obama is not a secularist, he is a radical black Muslim, which among other things means his religious leaders have an agenda that includes killing all white people and crushing Christianity. Google Jeremiah Wright, Obama’s pastor. Better yet look him up on youtube.

How many people LOST healthcare under Obamacare? I think if you will put aside your self-righteous outrage long enough to check the numbers, you will find that Obama not only didn’t provide health care, he took it away.

  35. Actually he is not…just because someone is a trained anything does not make him or them qualified or more qualified…I am a nurse..and have worked in behavioral health..I read frequently about narcissist and sociopaths out of interest…my father is a surgeon..my brothers doctors and dentist…I dont see them more or less qualified..as we are all given a brain to use and think with….I’m sorry but I dont see Obama as a psychopath…and calling him one is slander and a mistruth….if one does not have the facts. I have read that the pyschatrists and a leading news company do not agree with carsons statement either as I just read this two days ago…a sociopath is someone like king Herod…or Ted buddy…they don’t achieve much in life, are drifters…I’m sorry but I just don’t see it… King Herod may have just been a narcissist or just plain evil…which would not make him a psychopath/sociopath..as even narcissists have a conscience even if do bad things….some seem to feel Obama is a pathological liar…(I dont agree) however even pathological liars are not sociopaths…we will have to agree to disagree…I would definitely agree that Ben Carson is an expert neurosurgeon…of which I would not have knowledge of..in any way as he in that field, however a neurosurgeon is no expert above others in the area of behavioral or mental Health….I just can’t agree.

    1. Rebecca?
How come you all of a sudden have nothing else to say when I offer to look at diagnostic criteria? You were just telling me it is obvious he isn’t a psychopath. If you are so certain, why don’t you want to look at the books to prove it?

  36. To Paula…I also disagree with you about your statements re Obama care…I also do not believe Obama is Muslim….Nor is he a radical Muslim..as you have stated. He is Christian from what I have researched…I am saying in his role as president he seems to do a good job of separating church and state…and therefore is acting more secular as a president should in that role. As for Carson feeling called by God…certainly he may feel this way…however that does not make it so.. i had an sda minister claim to be called by God to promote his rock music agenda in the sda church…many are doing this and saying they are called by God. Anyone can say they feel called by God….and that does not make them correct in their feeling….and we are told by their fruits you will know them….we are all given a brain and a relationship of our own with God if we so choose…and that gives me the right to doubt whether someone is being called by God…if things aren’t measuring up.. I am stating my opinion… As to whether Obama is Muslim or not…who knows…however from what I have researched he is not…and also being Muslim does not make one radical or wanting to kill all white people. I personally believe he is Christian…

  37. LMC

It’s easy to pick apart anyone’s televised, 5 minute “comments” without understanding the basis for them. It’s an entirely different approach to take the time to gain a full perspective on the the moral and ethical basis for one’s political dispositions. If more people would take an educated approach to understanding Ben Carson’s political views through reading his books, articles, etc. before making decisions about what a “disaster” he is politically and whether he should run for office they would likely have a completely different view. It is ignorant and unwise to make negative remarks and come to concrete conclusions without doing so. That uneducated approach, in and of itself, is one of the strongest reasons why America has suffered the demise it has over the past many years.

  38. MLM

I would like to say that as Adventist our first and only stand should be that of God’s will. And when considering an office as important as president we should be careful on whom we support. It doesn’t matter if Ben Carson is an Adventist or even a successful person in general, Ask your self, Is he standing on God’s word, God’s morals, God’s direction? It’s not this world’s opinion and standards we need to worry about. If God want him there for His purpose to be played out he will be, if not he won’t. Plain and simple. Remember, God’s will, will be done in all things….

  39. Netlace

First off, how can a Sabbath keeper run for President? Medical field is accepted on Sabbath, politics? I don’t see how. I think he is delusional in thinking he will actually have a voice as a president. He will have to follow Satan’s path or be assassinated. The elite will not allow anything to stand in the way of their plans. I personally feel Obama is the last president before Jesus return. If he (Obama) needs too he will somehow get an extension or even run another term. Please consider SDA Pastor Jack Darnalls dream in the 80’s…

“”I had this dream last night and in
the dream the last president of the United States was a black man. He’s tall and thin like you, about 6’4”, big ears, short hair, with a big piano smile, and a real charismatic person. The people will vote him in and they will really like him.
But after he is president for a while he will become a tyrant and will do many things that will upset the people.”
I asked him, “How could this be? He said, “I don’t know.” I said, “No one will believe it if you tell them it’s a black man.”””

Keep in mind back in the 80’s we would have never guessed a black man as president!
    Prayer’s for Ben

    1. STU REDMAN

SO ON THAT NOTE, DID KING DAVID CLOCK OUT ON FRIDAY NIGHT? READ THE STORY OF HOW GOD ASKED JOSHUA TO HAVE HIS MEN MARCH 7 DAYS AROUND JERICHO. IF THEY DID THAT, AT LEAST ONE OF THOSE DAYS WAS A SATURDAY. JESUS BROKE THE SABBATH ON PURPOSE, THE JEWS WERE OBSESSED WITH THE SABBATH AS ARE MANY SDA. YET ALOT OF SDA WORK THEIR BUTTS OFF ON SABBATH IN THE CHURCH AND THE LAST THING THEY DO IS REST. NOW LET ME TAKE A NAP.

    2. STU REDMAN

NETLACE SAID: I personally feel Obama is the last president before Jesus return. LET THE RECORD SHOW, A NEW END DATE IS NOTED AND A NEW DISAPPOINTMENT WILL FOLLOW. JEES, WE NEVER LEARN.

  40. Netlace

Just prior to Zachary Taylor’s death he made this remark…

On July 8, Taylor remarked to a medical attendant:

I should not be surprised if this were to terminate in my death. I did not expect to encounter what has beset me since my elevation to the Presidency. God knows I have endeavored to fulfill what I conceived to be an honest duty. But I have been mistaken. My motives have been misconstrued, and my feelings most grossly outraged.

  41. Didn’t read most of y’all’s responses…still mystified by SDA people being in opposition to Dr Ben running for President….REALLY? WHY?? Scared of an openly honest Christian stepping forward? Anyone who stands for freedom and upholds God’s principles NEEDS to be running for President! REALLY?? Worried about how it might reflect on a particular section of Christianity? Those who stand on the Word of God have no need to make an excuse or cower to others. GET OVER IT, what ever is your fear!! Gays and others have as much courage to make their beliefs known, OPEN…So, are Christians to be made to cower in DARKNESS ?? REALLY, Adventists… Catholics, Lutherans, Methodists, Independent, what ever your particular label…Christians everywhere… There is EVERY reason for a true CHRISTIAN, PATRIOTIC, MORAL, INTELLIGENT, man or woman of GOD to step forward. Thank You, Dr Ben…there is much conflict you are facing, but I know you are being lead by God, and no one else. I still fear for your emotional security, as that of your family, as this is a shark tank you are swimming in!

  42. Randy White

I find it both funny and sad how the Adventist are responding to this. You are tearing down another Adventist because you are afraid how bad it will make your denomination look. Your response is what makes your day nomination looks. I left the Adventist denomination around 20 years ago for this same reason and I see nothing has changed. Get over yourselves and start worshipping the Creator.

  43. wesan

    Hi Everyone,
interesting indeed. I am not a Adventist and not even a American, however, its seems like ur decisions and ur presidents affects other less powered societies like mine and also I’ve read his books and watch movies about him, so couldn’t let this pass after all the inspiration Carson has pass on to me as a child.
so on that note. As Christians we believe that everything happens for a reason. the changes we see happening and the decisions our leaders make are part of the whole plan that we all have to go through….we are just living what God has already planned for and had in mind. God is only concern about who is living the Truth and is Faithful to him in these days where satan is working so hard to bring everyone down.

all we can do is pray, if God has in plan for Carson to be the next president, it will come to pass. No one stops Gods will. If not it will not.
i do not know you constitution or who is eligible to stand for president and who is not but all i’m saying is God’s will come to pass, and what you need to worry about is your Soul.

    🙂

    1. Thank you, Wesan, for reminding us how important our salvation is in all that. I, like you, have followed Dr. Carson’s career since he separated those babies at their craniums about 30 years ago. I am SDA, but converted, when I saw the Biblical truths. I have been in church all my life, so Bible study was not a new thing for me. The Seventh Day Adventist Church is a church which stands upon Biblical fundamental beliefs. It is not a cult, for anyone who has that misconception. Any belief is supported by Scripture. As far as Dr. Carson goes, we have had other presidents without political experience, but they were smart, and knew how to appoint people to get their jobs done. I heard Dr. Carson speak just two days ago, and believe me, his intelligence comes through, he cares about his country, and the people being impacted by all the poor policies currently affecting all Americans. I know they affect my family in a negative way, and financially . I do not believe from his persona that he has an ego problem. People around him enjoyed his presence and he seemed to enjoy theirs. He spoke for about 40 minutes without notes, he provided a lot of information Americans probably do not know because he obviously takes time to become informed, and has possible solutions if he has the opportunity to be the next President. I am sure Dr. Carson is aware of the difference between Church and State for those that are concerned that he is a man of faith. God will provide a way if it is God’s Will that he take this on. Why would anyone really want to be President, unless they had a heart to do it, because it is one of the most thankless jobs you could undertake. May God lead him as he thinks about what all this means and people need to become better acquainted with what he stands for before they make up their minds to be against him. God bless all posting here.

    2. STU REDMAN

I’M NOT ABSOLUTELY SURE THAT JESUS WOULD BE AN SDA IF HE WERE TO BECOME MAN AGAIN AND LIVE ON EARTH. BIBLICAL EVIDENCE SHOWS HE ATTENDED JEWISH HOUSE OF WORSHIP BUT, WHO KNOWS. ORGANIZED RELIGION SEEMS TO RUIN CHRISTIANITY AND CHRISTIANS.

  44. Nick Scavo

Reading this I notice that our leaders are worried about Dr. Carson making Adventist look bad. I suggest you concentrate more on our hospitals conducting abortions of convenience since 1970. The 6th commandment is as important as the 4th. This started in Hawaii at Castle Memorial in order to build some of these hospitals they had to offer this service. I wonder during the thousand year rest if the Doctors and contributors who pushed for this might be shown how the lives they sacrificed might have turned out. I always thought of myself as callous and not having a lot of feelings the Marines and Vietnam did not make me any softer . But as i interact act with my fellow Adventist and discuss this they seem more concerned with pushing for women ordination. They are quick to point out EG said not to get involved with politics . Well EG comments on first Timothy 3 are elders are to be suitable men. My wife and I will support Dr. Carson I have his stickers on our Army Navy store front window . I believe if our hospitals do not want to cease and desist elective abortions they should be made to drop the name Adventist. The cat is out of the bag in light of all the publicity about planned parent hood selling baby parts our church should have been at the for front of this issue. Instead we are relegated to the side lines I believe we have become to 501c3 compliant. Thank you for your time.

  45. Big Bob

God Almighty’s Kingdom is NOT a Demoncracy.
His Kingdom is a hierarchical monarchy.
Maybe some of us folks should study more about God’s Government of love and laws.
Where do you plan on spending eternity?
    God’s Kingdom or man’s and satan’s demonacracy ?

  46. Paula

I have noted that the most vitriolic statements against Ben Carson come from within the Adventist community. These attacks are usually not against Carson or his positions, but fears of what his run will do to our “reputation” with the world. As such, I think they are a symptom of a greater problem in Adventism in which we are more enamored of our culture than of ethics, truth, or even the gospel.

  47. Dea Shenk

Association with the vipers in congress will bite and aim to kill all innocent running mates. Not a healthy place to be. Choose to serve but not in the den of vipers. They will eat you alive and love doing it. We do not need to put our church in the lime light to fail at being wise enough to change this seasoned bunch of lying politicians into a Godfearing congress curing this countries ailments. This country needs surgery but we know how the world is accepting the devils diseases. As in the days of Noah. Are we kidding ourselves in thinking Carson is the cure. Get real folks.

  48. Young Young

Not an American but just concerned. It is true that as of present, America is the worlds super power and thus being the leader, some sanity and fear for the Almighty God is needed here lest everything go wrong. At present, I believe that the American leadership is full of hypocrites and non God fearing people who are drugging the world into a ditch. I therefore feel that the next head of states should be somebody God fearing and has respect for humanity as well as engage in sensible constructive practices and issues with good motives. I believe that Carson has some sense in him and has the fear for God and his Adventist belief does not provide any room for frustrating or intimidating anyone on the basis of their belief or social practices but does not encourage vices like non reasonable abortion and gaysm/lesbianism as have been the case with the current governments. If God were to punish people who do wrong, Jesus could have left very few but even Him just came to preach the good news and ask people to change from the vices (at will). I believe Carson is never going to fight anyone for his beliefs but the constitution is there to guide in every situation. After all, politics is the way to leadership and the fact is that leadership should not be left for the evil just because the path to leadership goes through politics or else the evil would lead forever. Americans be wise and play politics of basis and reasoning
