ADVENTIST WORLD — Adventists everywhere are being urged by their denomination to watch or re-watch the movie Elf this Christmas. The reason? The main character, Buddy (played by Will Ferrell), is, according to church leaders, a “near-perfect example of being in the world but not of it.”
Buddy, accidentally transported to the North Pole as a toddler, is raised among Santa’s elves. Feeling like he does not fit in, he goes looking for his real dad in New York City, dressed in full elf attire. His quest leads him on a series of awkward adventures where he consistently sticks out like a sore thumb.
“Buddy is peculiar to say the least and, though he has an awful dress sense that should never be imitated by our members, he shows us how to be confidently peculiar in a world where people simply don’t get us,” said a church statement.
