SILVER SPRING, Md. — Fact-checking website Snopes is investigating baptismal numbers released by the General Conference after flagging them for what the site calls “suspiciously evangelistic math.”
Snopes admits the numbers will take some time to verify as the organization can only afford to send fact-checkers to a handful of exotic locations at a time.
When discovered, the data will be hard to analyze as the site says “records are a messier than a midterm election recount and there’s no point checking the numbers based on retention stats.”
