In a surprise move for the generally uneventful world of Adventist publishing, the Vatican has announced that it has snapped up worldwide publishing rights to Ellen White classic The Great Controversy.
Explaining the move, the Vatican’s publishing division said the book “has been on our radar ever since some Adventists started handing copies of it out for free all over Rome.”
The General Conference admitted to having been caught “completely off guard” by the action and immediately set out to ensure Steps to Christ and Counsels on Diet and Foods were not up for grabs.
The Great Controversy acquisition means that the title will now – for the first time – be on offer in all Vatican gift shops. A statement announcing the move says the book will be “somewhat edited.”
