Pastor John had been reassigned so frequently over his 25 year career that he decided to save money by permanently living out of a U-Haul truck.
“I’ve moved 14 times already,” he explained. “The rental fees, hotel stays, and security deposits really add up. This way I’m always packed and ready to go wherever the conference sends me next.”
John had a customized 26-foot truck outfitted with a bed, kitchen, and makeshift shower. Between pastoral assignments, he’d simply park his “mobile parsonage” in the church parking lot.
“The trunk life isn’t glamorous,” John admitted. “But it sure beats living out of boxes every couple years. Plus, my houseplants finally stop dying from all the relocation stress!”
While unconventional, John’s U-Haul residence allowed him to embrace the Adventist pastor’s perpetually transient lifestyle. No more wasted money on temporary housing – he was truly a modern nomadic minister. And permanently single.
