Newbold College Adds ‘Coping with Football Disappointment’ to Theology Curriculum

Share

In a bold move following England’s heartbreaking loss to Spain in the Euro 2024 final, Newbold College of Higher Education has announced an addition to its theology curriculum: “THEO 301: Coping with Football Disappointment from a Biblical Perspective.” Dr. Nigel Footbottom, Theology Lecturer, explained the decision: “As Adventist educators, we must prepare our students for all of life’s trials. And let’s face it, supporting England in football is one of the greatest trials of faith our British students will ever face.” The course will cover essential topics such as: – “Turn the Other Cheek: Dealing with Spanish Supporters” – “The Parable of the Missed Euro” – “Job’s Patience vs. Waiting for England to Win a Trophy” Students will also engage in practical exercises, including group therapy sessions where they can share their feelings about England’s perpetual underachievement in major tournaments. Newbold College hopes this innovative course will not only help students process their football-related grief but also boost enrollment numbers among despairing England supporters seeking spiritual solace.
