Let’s Take Back Adventism

Share

Adventism wasn’t built by people who thought they had everything figured out.

It was built by people who were hungry for more truth.

People who believed God was still leading. People who were willing to change their minds. People who understood there was a very real possibility they were wrong about some things—and that Jesus might have more to teach them tomorrow than He had taught them yesterday.

That spirit made Adventism exciting.

But over time, institutions grew. Power structures formed. Systems calcified. In some places, defending the status quo became more important than pursuing truth. When salaries, positions, and reputations depend on things staying the same, openness becomes harder.

I’m not convinced that’s what God wants.

Actually, I’m pretty sure it isn’t.

The Holy Spirit has never stopped speaking. Truth has never stopped unfolding. Growth has never stopped being part of the Christian journey.

The good news? It’s not too late.

We can choose curiosity over certainty. We can choose humility over tribalism. We can choose learning over fear. We can remain open to Jesus, open to the Spirit’s leading, and open to the possibility that God still has more to reveal.

Let’s take back that part of Adventism.

Not by fighting people. Not by winning arguments. But by becoming the kind of community that welcomes questions, pursues truth, and follows Jesus wherever He leads.

That’s the Adventism worth building.

And that’s the Adventism we’re marching toward.

BarelyAdventist exists for people who still love the story enough to believe it can grow.

We’re building something that sits between honesty and hope—content that tells the truth about where things are stuck, while refusing to give up on where things could go. Every post, every conversation, every piece of media is part of a wider attempt to keep Adventism open, curious, and alive to the leading of Jesus and the Spirit.

But none of this happens in isolation. It only works because a community of readers decides it’s worth supporting. If this vision resonates with you—if you believe Adventism should be more open, more courageous, and more willing to grow—then I’d love you to consider becoming a Patreon supporter.

Your support doesn’t just fund content. It sustains a space where questions are allowed, where faith can breathe, and where a better future for Adventism is still being imagined every day. Join us, and help build what comes next.
