SILVER SPRING, MD — A growing number of Adventists confirmed this week that their discomfort with the Super Bowl halftime show might be significantly reduced if the performer were named “Good Bunny” instead of Bad Bunny.
“I’m not judging him,” said local church member Elaine P., carefully judging him. “I just think names matter. In the Bible, names meant something. And I don’t see how anything good can come from a bunny that introduces himself as bad.”
Several members clarified that they were not opposed to the music itself—most of which they did not understand—but rather the branding, which they described as “needlessly confrontational” and “spiritually suspicious.”
“If he came out as Good Bunny, people would be more open,” said another member. “Or at least Neutral Bunny. Something invitational.”
Church focus groups revealed that many viewers felt an immediate sense of unease upon hearing the name, despite having previously enjoyed characters such as the Easter Bunny, Bugs Bunny, and the Beast from Beauty and the Beast.
“I just kept thinking about Philippians 4:8,” said one elder, referencing a verse he could not fully quote. “Whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is… morally acceptable-sounding.”
At press time, multiple Adventist Facebook pages were reportedly debating whether rebranding the artist as “Good Bunny” would have changed the entire spiritual tone of the halftime show, with several commenters agreeing it would have made them “way more receptive,” even if nothing else about the performance changed.
Meanwhile, church leaders issued a gentle reminder that righteousness is not, in fact, determined by stage names—though they acknowledged that “it would probably help.”
