I keep coming back to this. Jesus is the center. Salvation is by grace. You can keep Sabbath, eat clean, show up, tithe, know every Daniel chart, and none of it will save you. Mature Adventism knows that. When we forget it, we get weird fast.
What I like is that we are supposed to keep growing. Dedication is good. Thinking you have arrived is not. There is more to learn, and I would rather belong to people who admit that than people who act like the file is closed.
The global family is one of the true gifts. I have sat in church where I did not speak the language and still knew the rhythm. Rest on Saturday. Open the Bible. Pull up a chair. That feeling of already belonging is hard to fake.
A lot of us really do want to study Scripture. Sometimes it turns into a contest. Sometimes it is just hunger. The hunger is the part I trust. Our older people last a long time. The health message helps when nobody turns it into a new law. Eat like a grown-up. Sleep. Walk. Use some sense.
I like the focus on the Second Coming when it is not used to scare people into behaving. Urgency is fine. Fear as a ministry tool is not. It is supposed to make you live like time matters and people matter. That part is sane.
The warts are obvious. Legalism. Ellen White as a conversation-ender. Prophecy as a hobby that crowds out Jesus. Churches that would rather be right than kind. I am not interested in hiding any of that.
I am still here because Christ is the point, and on our better days this family remembers that and takes care of each other. That is enough to keep going.
