GC Announces Tithe Transparency App With Leaderboard and Shame Notifications

Share

In a move to “build trust and accountability,” the Adventist Church has unveiled its latest digital innovation: the Tithe Transparency App, now featuring real-time leaderboards and personalized shame notifications for members lagging behind in their giving.

The app, developed in collaboration with Southern Adventist University’s brightest programmers, allows members to track their tithe performance against local, conference, and global averages. Users receive push notifications when they fall below the “Time of Trouble readiness” threshold or when their neighbor’s giving streak surpasses their own. For added motivation, the app introduces a weekly “Most Faithful Steward” badge, while those in the bottom quartile are gently nudged with Ellen White quotes about cheerful giving.

Church leaders tout the new leaderboard as “a friendly way to encourage systematic benevolence,” and assure members that all data is securely stored-except for the mandatory public leaderboard, which is displayed on each church foyer’s new 85-inch monitor. Future updates promise integration with Sabbath School attendance and a “Cover the Fees” challenge for the truly committed.
