Local Adventist Discovers Caring for the Poor Is Not a Liberal Conspiracy—But Actually, Like… Half the Bible

SPRINGFIELD, USA — In a shocking turn of events during this week’s Sabbath School discussion, local Adventist Mark Jensen reportedly discovered that caring for the poor is not, in fact, a modern political agenda—but something the Bible just… keeps bringing up. Repeatedly. Almost suspiciously often.

“I was just flipping through looking for a good verse about beasts and timelines,” Jensen explained, “and suddenly it’s like—boom—‘defend the oppressed,’ ‘care for the widow,’ ‘don’t exploit the poor.’ I thought I’d accidentally opened a sociology textbook.”

Sources say the confusion began when Jensen stumbled into the book of Isaiah and failed to locate a single prophecy chart, instead finding an alarming number of calls for justice, mercy, and actual human compassion.

“I kept waiting for it to pivot back to something safe,” he said. “You know, like horns.”

Church members report that the situation escalated when Jensen cross-referenced with the teachings of Jesus, who—according to multiple eyewitness accounts—would not stop talking about the poor, the marginalized, and people who don’t usually get invited to potluck.

“At one point I had to close my Bible,” Jensen admitted. “It was getting… uncomfortable.”

Local leaders have responded swiftly, assuring members that while the Bible does contain numerous references to justice, mercy, and generosity, these should be interpreted carefully and, if possible, metaphorically.

“We affirm the full message of Scripture,” said one elder, “especially the parts about beasts. The other parts—we encourage balance.”

Meanwhile, Jensen says he is still processing the discovery but is open to the possibility that following Jesus may involve more than correctly identifying end-time timelines.

“I’m not making any big changes yet,” he said cautiously, “but I am starting to suspect that ‘love your neighbor’ might not just mean saying happy Sabbath and passing the haystacks.”

At press time, Jensen was seen nervously reading the book of Amos and whispering, “Why is it all like this?”
