As Adventists we are impatient for Jesus to come back. Truth be told, we are embarrassed he hasn’t yet returned. Here are some reasons He hasn’t returned as soon as some had hoped.
1. He’s Not Running on Our Clocks
God’s sense of time isn’t ours—2 Peter 3:8 says a day’s like a thousand years to him. While we’re pacing and checking the sky, Jesus is up there like, “Chill, I’ve got eternity to nail this entrance.”
2. Grace Is Still Handing Out Invitations
2 Peter 3:9 says he’s “not wanting anyone to perish.” Jesus is holding off, probably whispering, “Come on, Carl, RSVP already—I’ve got a spot reserved for you!” It’s all about that divine patience.
3. No One Knows the Day, Not Even the Angel with the Trumpet
Matthew 24:36 is firm: only the Father knows the schedule. PERIOD.
4. The Gospel Hasn’t Blanketed the Earth Yet
Matthew 24:14 says the good news must reach every nation before the end. Jesus might be glancing down, thinking, “Still some gaps in the coverage—let’s get the word out a bit further!” It’s a global delivery in progress.
5. He’s Still Shaping Our Hearts
Revelation 14:12 describes God’s people as faithful, but Jesus isn’t rushing us—he’s refining us through grace (1 Peter 1:7). He’s up there saying, “Take your time growing; I’ve got the polish covered.”
