The case against women pastors in Adventism is usually presented as simple fidelity. An elder must be the husband of one wife. Paul does not let a woman teach or have authority over a man. Adam came first. The priests were men. Unity cannot survive a Western novelty. End of file.
That file is thinner than it looks.
“Husband of one wife” is about fidelity, not anatomy. We already know this, because we let women serve as deacons under the same phrasing. 1 Timothy 2 is addressing disorder in a local church, not issuing a forever job description. The same apostle assumes women pray and prophesy in public and commends Priscilla for teaching a man who needed it. Deborah judged Israel. The Spirit in Joel and Acts falls on daughters. Ellen White held ministerial papers and wrote that the Spirit prepares men and women to be pastors to the flock. We already license women to preach, baptize, and carry congregations. We just withhold the word that makes the work official.
Headship, as now used, is not historic Adventism. It is a later import wearing Genesis like a uniform. Creation gives both sexes the image of God and shared rule. Treating male-only ordination as the test of biblical seriousness asks a few disputed verses to do more work than they can carry.
The church will not collapse if it tells the truth about gifts it already uses. It will look smaller if it keeps asking called women to do the job and then pretend the recognition does not matter. The mission is larger than our fear of the vote.
