Every Thanksgiving, we all pause to list the usual things we’re grateful for—family, health, pumpkin pie, the fact that haystacks are still a thing. But this year, I need to add something huge to my gratitude list: you—the BarelyAdventist community.
I’ve had the pleasure of working with this wonderfully unhinged, insightful, hilarious corner of Adventism since 2014, and honestly? I feel like we’re just now hitting our stride.
We’ve become this rare space where we can be funny without being cruel, honest without being cynical, heartfelt without being sappy, and sharp without cutting each other down. We get to laugh together, cringe together, respectfully disagree together, and occasionally look around and think, “Wow… this is actually a healthier Adventism than I grew up with.”
What I love most is that we keep each other honest. We try—really try—to do better. To think deeper. To imagine a kinder, more thoughtful, more joyful Adventism with Jesus at the center of it all. And of course, to make the jokes that everyone else is thinking but no one else dares to post.
So this Thanksgiving, I’m stepping back to say: thank you.
Thank you for your comments, your chaos, your stories, your corrections, your good-natured roasting, your honesty, and your heart.
I’m deeply grateful for every single one of you.
Here’s to more laughter, more sharp takes, more real talk, and more hope for this weird and wonderful faith family of ours.
Happy Thanksgiving, BarelyAdventist Fam. You’re the best part of this journey.
