Myrtle Beach, S.C. – Local Adventist couple Bob and Mildred Harrington recently returned from what they called a “mission trip” to a beachfront resort hotel. However, hotel staff report that the couple spent the bulk of their 10-day stay attempting to convert employees to Adventism.
“Every time I came to clean their room, they would barrage me with Bible studies and Ellen White books,” said Anita Go, a housekeeper at the hotel. “I didn’t mind the first few times, but it got old real quick.”
Front desk clerk Ryan Thompson had a similar experience. “They kept inviting me to go to the beach with them on Saturday. When I told them I had to work, they launched into a whole spiel about the Sabbath. I eventually started hiding in the back office when I saw them coming.”
The couple’s evangelism efforts reached a climax at the end of their stay. “On their last day, they asked to speak to the entire hotel staff,” said manager Lisa Gregson. “We gathered in the lobby thinking they wanted to share some feedback.
Instead, Mr. Harrington pulled out a projector and started presenting an evangelistic series. After his third altar call, we had to politely ask them to leave so we could assist other guests.”
Reached for comment, Bob Harrington remained undeterred. “We planted a lot of seeds. I have a feeling we’ll see some of those employees in the earth made new!”
Mildred Harrington agreed. “I just kept thinking, what better way to spend our vacation than working for the Lord? Although next time, maybe we’ll pick a hotel that allows us to put literature in the rooms.”
The hotel has not commented on whether the Harringtons will be welcome back for another stay.
