How a Kinder Adventism Could Change the World

Share

Adventism has always dreamed big—health reform, global mission, the Three Angels’ Message, a people preparing for Jesus’ return. But maybe the most transformative thing we could give the world right now isn’t another initiative or institution. Maybe it’s something much simpler, much harder, and much more Christlike: kindness.

The kind that apologizes when we’ve made church a battleground over drums or jewelry.

The kind that welcomes people even if their Sabbath attire doesn’t match the church directory.

The kind that listens to young adults instead of labeling them “rebellious” for asking honest questions.

The kind that refuses to weaponize Ellen White quotes as grenades in spiritual arguments.

The kind that treats LGBTQ+ loved ones with dignity, compassion, love and humility, even if we’re still wrestling with theology.

The kind that sees visitors at potluck and actually invites them to sit with us instead of protecting our table like it’s the Most Holy Place.

A kinder Adventism wouldn’t dilute doctrine—it would strengthen witness. Because nothing undermines the gospel faster than unkind Christians, and nothing validates it faster than gracious ones.

Imagine Sabbath schools where curiosity is welcomed.

Board meetings where people speak softly even when they disagree.

Academies where struggling students aren’t shamed but supported.

Hospitals where “extending the healing ministry of Christ” describes how staff treat each other, not just patients.

And a global church where our end-time urgency makes us more loving, not more anxious.

The world is exhausted by religious harshness. But it is hungry—desperately—for communities that reflect Jesus’ character.

A kinder Adventism could be our most powerful evangelistic strategy, our most credible theology, and our most beautiful prophecy.

And maybe, just maybe, the clearest sign that we actually believe what we preach.
