Geneva, Switzerland – The International Olympic Committee (IOC) confirmed today that Pathfinder Fancy Drill Marching will be added as an official sport in the upcoming Summer Olympics.
The decision came after months of lobbying by the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, who pointed out the high level of skill, precision, and coordination required in Pathfinder fancy drill performances. “These young people spend countless hours practicing their routines,” said Dr. Reginald Marchbanks, Adventist Youth Ministries spokesperson. “It’s about time the world recognizes the athletic prowess required to synchronize a perfect Left-Face-Pivot-Halt in unison.”
The sport will join the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, where teams from around the world will compete in categories such as “Most Creative Marching Formation,” “Syncopated Step Drills,” and “Best Uniform Design.” Judges will score performances based on precision, creativity, and the ability to keep a straight face while wearing a sash loaded with honors.
IOC President Thomas Bach expressed his enthusiasm for the new addition. “We are always looking for ways to diversify the Olympic program,” Bach said. “Pathfinder Fancy Drill Marching not only celebrates physical coordination but also promotes teamwork, discipline, and a complete alternative to synchronized dance.”
