SILVER SPRING, MD—The Seventh-day Adventist General Conference (GC) has released a new statement on denominational exclusivism:
“We categorically deny any suggestion that the Seventh-day Adventist Church is exclusive. We simply prefer to be right alone.”
The digitally distributed document, signed by the GC Executive Committee, emphasizes the church’s “remnant” identity as “the joy of correct doctrine in the company of like-minded believers, even if that company is statistically limited.”
GC spokespersons added that interfaith dialogue is permissible, but only from a “safe doctrinal distance” and with proper credentials. “We welcome all who wish to join us in being right,” the statement concludes, “but we understand if others prefer to be less correct elsewhere.”
Next GC Session seating will be by degree of agreement with Fundamental Beliefs; non-Adventist observers or California Adventists should pack their own lunch and hymnals.
Asked about Christian fellowship, a GC official replied, “We’re open to unity—just not at the expense of being right.”
