Rachel Yeswuman, inadvertently volunteered to organize and lead her own baby shower. The incident occurred during last week’s women’s ministry meeting, where Rachel’s notorious inability to decline any request reached new heights.
Witnesses report that as the group discussed upcoming events, someone mentioned the need for a volunteer to plan Rachel’s baby shower. Before anyone could offer, Rachel’s hand shot up automatically, accompanied by her trademark enthusiastic “I’d be happy to!”
“It was like watching a knee-jerk reaction, but with her entire body,” said Dorcas Society president, Martha Busybody. “We all just stared in disbelief as Rachel started listing off ideas for her own surprise party.”
Rachel, now 7 months pregnant, has a long-standing reputation in the church for never turning down a volunteer opportunity. Her resume includes simultaneously serving as head deaconess, assistant Pathfinder leader, potluck coordinator, and backup organist – all while holding down a full-time job and pursuing a master’s degree in overachievement.
“I didn’t even realize what I’d done until I got home and added ‘Plan Baby Shower’ to my to-do list,” Rachel admitted, looking slightly frazzled. “But you know what they say – if you want something done right, do it yourself, right?”
The church board is now considering implementing a new “Volunteer Restraining Order” policy to protect overzealous members like Rachel from themselves. Meanwhile, Rachel’s husband, Tim, has reportedly started answering all phone calls from church members with a preemptive “No, she can’t. She’s busy.”
