Look, I know some Adventists treat December 25 like it’s the mark of the beast wrapped in tinsel, but hear me out…
We SHOULD celebrate Christmas.
And here’s why:
1️⃣ Because Doing Nothing Feels Like Missing Out on God’s Goodness
The holidays are an excuse to be generous, silly, and grateful. Skipping it? That’s like leaving a gift under the tree unopened.
2️⃣ Because Jesus Was Actually Born
Shocking, I know.
No one is asking you to worship a tree.
Just to celebrate the fact that the Savior of the Universe showed up as a baby who couldn’t even hold up His own head.
That’s wholesome. That’s beautiful. That’s VERY on-brand for Adventists.
3️⃣ Because Ellen White Literally Said the Christmas Tree Was Fine
She didn’t say worship it.
She didn’t say put angels with LED wings on top.
She said use it for mission offerings — which is the most Adventist sentence in history.
If EGW was chill with decorating a giant pine to fundraise for evangelism, you can handle some fairy lights in your living room.
4️⃣ Because Joy Is Not a Sin
Somewhere along the line, a few of us got the idea that happiness = worldliness.
No.
Eat the fruitcake.
Sing the carols.
Hug your grandma.
None of this will delay the Second Coming.
5️⃣ Because Our Kids Deserve Memories, Not Just Memory Verses
Let them hang ornaments.
Let them drink hot chocolate.
Let them experience a yearly tradition that isn’t just,
“Kids, we’re visiting another church plant today.”
Family joy is not a compromise. It’s ministry.
6️⃣ Because Community Heals
Churches are full of lonely people.
Christmas gives us a moment to show up for each other.
This is the kind of love Jesus actually asked for — not theological nitpicking over the historical timeline of shepherds in Judea.
So yes, Adventists SHOULD celebrate Christmas.
Not because December 25 is holy — but because LOVE is.
If Christmas gives you a chance to make someone feel seen, welcome, fed, hugged, included, remembered, prayed for, or supported…
CELEBRATE IT. FULLY. JOYFULLY. UNAPOLOGETICALLY.
